Project Description

This transformational project, located in the historic Orchard East neighborhood of the City of Monroe, positioned as The Center of the community, will continue the revitalization efforts and development of the Orchard East Campus.

Designed to embrace community and encourage collaboration, this multi-purpose community center library features diverse activity zones visible from the outdoors. The inviting Community Living Room creates a welcoming atmosphere from the street. Expansive windows in the Youth Activity area and the second floor Reading Terrace connect the project to Labor Park. Spaces throughout the facility are provided to express creativity, inspire entrepreneurism and maximize flexibility.
The building addition will create a community hub spanning over 28,000 square feet, serving as a dynamic focal point for the Orchard East neighborhood and the City of Monroe. The Lillian Stewart Navarre Branch Library, part of the Monroe County Library System, will be provided significantly larger indoor and outdoor spaces to house expanded programming and activities, including media studios and community incubation spaces. The Monroe County Learning Bank will relocate from their existing facility on the corner of Winchester and First Streets, to a modern educational suite located on the second floor. The Opportunity Center will share direct access between Gymnasium and Community Room levels to the new building addition, allowing for expanded programming and encouraging a collaborative synergy for this community-focused facility.
